GPD MicroPC 2 Review

Review published 2025-07-24 covering the GPD MicroPC 2, a UMPC (Ultra-Mobile PC) designed for field work and productivity rather than gaming. Compares the Intel N250 and Intel N300 configurations.

Key Specifications

  • CPU Options: Intel N250 (4 core) or Intel N300 (8 core)
  • Display: 7” touchscreen, 1080p, 2-in-1 laptop/tablet with rotating display
  • Weight: 500g
  • RAM: 16GB LPDDR5
  • Connectivity: 2.5Gbit Ethernet, HDMI 2.1, multiple USB ports
  • Display Output: Up to 4 monitors

Design and Form Factor

A massive upgrade from the 2019 original MicroPC. The 2-in-1 design with a rotating display allows use as both a tiny laptop and a tablet. The keyboard is small but usable for thumb typing. At 500g it remains highly portable for field work scenarios.

N250 vs N300

The N300 (8 core) offers notably better multi-core performance compared to the N250 (4 core). For users who need sustained multi-threaded workloads, the N300 is the recommended configuration.

Missing RS232 Port

A controversial omission: the original MicroPC included an RS232 serial port, which was a key feature for IT professionals and field technicians working with networking equipment, industrial hardware, and legacy systems. Its absence from the MicroPC 2 was noted as a significant loss for the device’s core audience.

Use Cases

Positioned as a field work tool rather than a consumer device. The combination of rugged portability, extensive connectivity (2.5Gbit Ethernet, HDMI 2.1, multiple USB ports), and multi-monitor support makes it suited to IT professionals, network engineers, and technicians.
