AYANEO Pocket VERT Review

Review published 2026-03-31 covering the AYANEO Pocket VERT, a vertical format Android gaming handheld described as the “flashiest vertical handheld” available. Powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with Adreno 730 GPU.

Key Specifications

  • SoC: Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 + Adreno 730
  • Display: 3.5” LTPS LCD, 1440x1600, 60Hz (10x Game Boy resolution for pixel-perfect upscaling)
  • Weight: 318g
  • Body: Full metal CNC construction
  • Input: Touchpad (replaces physical analog stick), Magic switch scroll wheel (from AYANEO Pocket DMG)
  • Gaming Buttons: Smaller than usual at 6.6mm

Design and Build

The Pocket VERT features a premium full metal CNC machined body with a standout look and feel. The 3.5” display at 1440x1600 resolution is specifically chosen as 10x the original Game Boy resolution, enabling pixel-perfect upscaling for retro titles. The Magic switch scroll wheel carries over from the AYANEO Pocket DMG.

Concerns

The touchpad replaces a physical analog stick and is not considered a great substitute. Gaming buttons are smaller than usual at 6.6mm which may affect comfort. Performance from the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is lower than current Snapdragon G3X Gen 2 and Gen 3 devices. A “style over substance” concern was noted in the review.

Comparisons

Compared with the AYANEO Pocket DMG which has the advantage of a physical analog stick. The Pocket VERT prioritizes premium aesthetics and the vertical form factor over raw performance and input flexibility.
