Summary
The AYANEO Pocket Air is an Android 12 gaming handheld from ayaneo, released in late 2023. It is AYANEO’s premium Android handheld offering, targeting retro gaming and emulation enthusiasts who want Android’s wide compatibility paired with AYANEO’s build quality. The device runs Android 12 and supports a wide range of emulation up to PS2 and some Switch titles. DROIX reviewed and stocked the Pocket Air as part of its Android handheld lineup.
Design & Build
The AYANEO Pocket Air follows AYANEO’s established ergonomic handheld design, with a horizontal layout, analogue sticks, and face buttons. As an Android device it operates independently of Windows and focuses on a native Android gaming experience with emulator support.
Emulation Performance
Emulation results from the DROIX review:
- Dolphin (Wii/GameCube): Good overall performance; occasional dips below 30/60 FPS on some titles, both modes covered
- PPSSPP (PSP): Excellent — rock solid 60 FPS on God of War at 1080p upscale with 16× anisotropic filtering
- Vita3K (PS Vita): Mostly 60 FPS with minor drops on Street Fighter vs Tekken
- Citra (3DS): Expected shader caching slowdowns on first run; smoother on less demanding titles at lower rendering resolution
- AetherSX2 (PS2): Mixed — good performance on Outrun, regular frame drops on Gran Turismo 3 (reducible by lowering rendering resolution)
- Yuzu (Switch): Around half the performance needed for full speed on Cruis’n Blast; better on less demanding and older titles
